Tucked in the village of Restigné, just east of Bourgueil, Catherine Breton and Pierre Breton have been crafting some of the Loire Valley’s most beloved natural wines since the late 1980s. Farming organically since 1991 and working with biodynamic principles, the Bretons focus on expressive, terroir-driven bottles, especially from Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc. Fermented with native yeasts, bottled with minimal intervention, and sometimes with no added sulphur at all, their wines capture the vibrant, soulful side of the Loire.

Today, the next generation, Paul Breton and France Breton (with her husband Baptiste), is stepping into the vineyards and cellar, ensuring this iconic estate continues to evolve while staying true to its roots.

Pierres Rousses Vouvray Sec

100% Chenin Blanc

One of our favourite wines from Breton, this fantastic bottle is sourced from 55-year-old vines in the Pierres Rousses lieu-dit in Vouvray on clay and flint soils. The grapes are whole-cluster pressed and fermented in older barriques. After seven months of ageing, it’s bottled with minimal filtration and sulphur. Expect classic Chenin Blanc character: honey, baked apple, ripe pear, and wet stone, with bright acidity and beautiful texture.

Nuits d’Ivresse Cabernet Franc

100% Cabernet Franc

A vibrant, crunchy Cabernet Franc made completely without added sulphur. Sourced from 50+ year-old vines across clay and limestone sites in the Loire Valley, the grapes ferment on skins before ageing for a year in barrel. Expect bright blue and black fruit, a touch of spicy capsicum, and plenty of freshness. Best served slightly chilled with food.

Elle Est Pas Bulles, La Vie?

100% Chenin Blanc

A joyful sparkling from Vouvray, whose name roughly translates to “Isn’t life all bubbles?” and after a glass, it’s hard to disagree. Made from 100% Chenin Blanc using the ancestral method, this lively sparkler shows bright orchard fruit, gentle sweetness, and fine fizz. Unfiltered, unfined, unfussy, and only a tiny allocation reached Alberta.
