The 22 hectare estate is located in the small Medieval town of Suvereto, on the coast south of Bolgheri. Virgilio and Rita purchased the estate in 1984 with modest ambitions. Planting Merlot and Cabernet, the couple took nearly a decade to release their first wine, the Bordeaux style Giusto di Notri. The winery got its big break when the 2000 vintage of the Redigaffi Merlot was awarded 100 points from Robert Parker (the first Italian wine to do so). Today considered an icon, Tua Rita is still family run, although Virgilio sadly passed away in 2010. Under the direction of winemaker Luca D’Attoma, Tua Rita produces only 3400 cases of wine each year.
This is how Tua Rita describe the Perlato del Bosco - "Perlato del Bosco is the result of a particularly encouraging vintage that delivered a regular maturation of our grapes in a timely manner. The winemaking process took place in a “tino troncoconico di rovere” (conical oak vats) for 6 months and then 10 months in barriques. The vintage defines the typical characteristics of Sangiovese from the coast: fresh and classical notes of “Macchia Mediterranea” that make this wine special for its territoriality. The good acidicty makes this wine easy to drink young but also suitable for aging."
