Partly because of its general ubiquity, good Chianti Classico rarely receives its due respect and is resultantly underpriced. The Tenuta di Carleone Chianti Classico punches well above its weight class! It most closely resembles the wines of Montevertine, producer of the iconic Pergole Torte. The wine is made from 100% Sangiovese harvested from vineyards sitting at 450-700 meters in elevation (which is high for Chianti). The grapes were manually harvested and crushed by foot with 10% whole bunches. Fermented in a combination of stainless steel, cement, and open bins, the wine was kept on the skins between 40 and 60 days. Élevage took place in stainless steel and cement for 18 months.
