Today winemakers appreciate it for its character that mirrors the elegance of Pinot Noir and the spice of Syrah. Macerated for 48 hours, the wine rested for 2 months on the lees, and then 2-3 months in American and French oak barrels.
Medium ruby red in color, the nose of this Mencia is rich with aromas of dark cherry, cranberry, orange peel, capsicum, and sage. Although fairly weighty on the palate, marked acidity and fine grained tannins add some lift to the tart red fruit flavors. The finish is long and herbaceous.
