Pago Casa Gran, owned by the Galbis family, is located in the southern Spanish region of Valencia. Situated in the “Les Alcusses” valley at the foothill of a mountain called La Bastida, it is one of the highest parts of the region. All of the vineyards are farmed according to organic guidelines laid out by Institute Delinat. This includes “mycorrhization”, a viticulture technique where vineyard biodiversity is promoted and nurtured through the use of cover-crops of ground flora that negates the need for chemical additives. The winery uses native yeasts for fermentation and gravity-flow to transfer the wine without pumps. The Falcata Casa Gran is a blend of Garnacha Tintorera, Syrah and Monastrell. Falcata is the name of an Iberian sword that the Iberian people used to fight the Romans. The wine is matured in a combination of French oak barrels for ten to twelve months, and in concrete tanks. A robust wine, it is packed with notes of blackberry, black cherry, dark chocolate, clove, and vanilla. The perfect wine for a brisk autumn barbecue.
