This is a super unique liqueur made from ancestral cacahuazintle corn from Jilotepec, Mexico. The name comes from the term nixtamalization - a 4,000 year old technique used to prepare corn for cooking. This has a unique, beautiful bottle shaped like a cob of corn. To make this liqueur, the corn is nixtamalized before being used in two ways: first, to macerate to extract flavour, and also to ferment to create a base for distillation. Nixta is produced at Bodega Amasolo, a small artisanal distillery focused on products made from corn.

This is definitely one for the serious cocktail nerds, and Nixta suggests using their liqueur in an Old Fashioned. They also have a great recipe for a spritz that goes as follows:

Nixta Spritz
  • 1.5 oz Nixta Liqueur
  • 1 oz Amaro Montenegro
  • .25 oz Lemon Juice
Pour these ingredients into a Collins glass over ice. Stir. Top with approximately 4 ounces of soda water. Garnish with an orange slice.
