Natural Wine
Natural Wine
Natural wine is a movement that has gained notoriety around the world, focused on wines made from sustainably farmed grapes and without the wide array of additives, colouring, chemicals & more found in many mass-produced wines. Just grapes, yeast and little-to-no sulphur – that’s it! Real wine made by real people. We have one of the largest selections of natural wines in Alberta – check them out today.

Owned by the Milner family since 1969, Natte Valleij was established in 1715 at the foot of the Simonsberg mountains. By no means a young property, it has been given renewed energy by winemaker Alexander Milner, whose father had originally purchased the property to breed racehorses. At that time the original vineyards were pulled out to make way for grass paddocks. When Alexander took over the estate in 2005, he decided that rather than replanting the vines, he would seek out lost parcels of underappreciated vines. The culmination of his explorations is the Natte Valleij Cinsault Collective.

"Natte Valleij and its grand old cape Dutch buildings have been home to quite a few interesting people and produced its fair share of fine Cape Wines. One of these was an Italian prisoner of war (P.O.W.) Captured and exiled to the Cape to spend the duration of the Second World War on the grounds of Natte Valleij. Doubtless he helped with farming and quite possibly winemaking, whilst living the cottage my wife and I call home. The inscription P.O.W. B.T. 27/12/1943 is our only reminder of his stay. In his honour, we have hand-crafted this limited release wine. Our take on an SA Bordeaux blend. Traditionally vinified; a blend of the finest grapes of the vintage and matured for 36months in large oak barrels." - Alex Milner
