In 1907 the grandparents of Nadège and Sylvain moved to Maubet Farm in Noulens in the heart of the Armagnac. Given to the cultivation of grape vines, maize, cereals, and cattle, the wine domaine wasn’t established until the 1980’s. Today Maison Fontan produces a range of characterful Armagnacs and Côtes de Gascogne wines.
The cépage for the Maubet Blanc is composed of Colombard, Ugni Blanc, Gros Manseng and Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes were destemmed and pressed into vats for 8 to 10 hours of skin maceration. Fermented at 18°C for 12 to 18 days, the wine rested in vats until bottling.
In the glass the wine is pale straw yellow in color with silver inflections. On the nose you find crisp aromas of honeydew, kiwi, citrus peel, jasmine and sea salt. The palate is light bodied with tart citrus flavors, lip smacking acidity and crunchy minerality. Pleasantly refreshing without being austere, this wine has a lingering and mouthwatering finish. Serve it well chilled with a seafood tower loaded with oysters, shrimp and lobster.
