Helios has been making sake and distillates on the island of Okinawa sense the 15th century. For centuries their specialty was traditional shochus, but more recently they've developed a reputation for expertly crafted rums made from local sugar cane. They are also highly regarded for their whiskies made from malted barley. 

Produced in small quantities, the Kura whisky is made from peated and unpeated malt whisky. The peat used is itself extremely rare and comes from the northern island of Hokkaido, and is similar in character to the peat found on the islands of Scotland. The whisky is aged in a combination of American oak barrels and local rum casks.
