In the world of Washington State wine, Charles Smith is a celebrity. Formerly a manager for Danish rock bands, Charles burst onto the wine scene with convivial wines like Kung Fu Girl Riesling and Boom Boom Syrah. Compelling wines equally matched by Charles’ commanding rockstar personality. By selling these highly successful brands in 2016 for a reported $120 million dollars, Charles was free to focus on his premium wine projects. These wines are made from only the finest grapes harvested from the region's best vineyards.

The 2018 King Coal proclaims that great American Cabernet Sauvignon isn’t relegated to California. It's made from a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Syrah sourced from the Stoneridge Vineyard in the Royal Slope appellation of Washington State. In the words of Charles Smith - the King Coal is "Earthy with a capital E. Dark and brooding. Delivering red and black fruit in a mélange of sarsaparilla stick, black licorice, and crushed velvet. Mightily-structured with a commanding presence that is justified by the majesty of this wine."

“The 2018 Syrah Cabernet / King Coal Stoneridge Vineyard is another beautifully layered, complex wine from the team at K Vintners, based on 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Syrah. It offers lots of classic Cabernet tobacco, cedary herbs, and graphite notes, with the Syrah offering a more plush, sexy, seamless style to the wine. Loaded with red and black fruits, toasted spice, and chocolate, fullbodied, concentrated, yet seamless and incredibly pure, this gorgeously layered blend has enough tannins to warrant short-term cellaring yet is going to evolve gracefully for 15-20 years in cold cellars. It’s a gorgeous wine.” - 98 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
