Dating back to the early 1900’s when the property was established by Florentine landowner, Lavinio Franceschi, Tenuta Il Poggione is one of the most widely recognized wine estates in Montalcino. As one of the founding members of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium, the winery has played a pivotal role in the region's rise. Today the estate spans over 600 hectares, of which 140 hectares are planted to vineyards. To promote biodiversity the remaining land is dedicated to olive trees, forest, grain fields, and pasture land for livestock. In the cellar father and son winemaking team Fabrizio and Alessandro Bindocci maintain the wineries traditional methods of long skin macerations and aging in large neutral casks. This is a benchmark Brunello di Montalcino winery. Il Poggione remains one of the most reliable names for fairly priced, age-worthy Tuscan wines.

“The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino delivers soft fruit, a medium dark color and extra texture. These traits come from a hot vintage that produced ripe, sweet fruit. The wine ages in small oak botte in order to lock in that pretty primary fruit. Cherry, redcurrant and baked plum rise from the bouquet. Best After 2022” - 90 points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
