The couple originally came to the southwest coast of South Africa in search of a special needs school for their son Leo, and were enchanted by what they saw. Naming their winery after the Norse god of eternal life, fertility and apples, the Rousset’s focus on producing a small amount of “cool climate” wines.
The Trois Cailloux is made from a classic Rhône blend of 76% Syrah, 14% Mourvedre and 10% Cinsault.
Deeb ruby red in color with purplish inflections, on the nose the Trois Cailloux shows ripe aromas of dark currant, blue berry, tobacco, black pepper and cocoa. Dense black fruit flavors on the medium bodied palate are paired with firm tannins and piquant spice. A touch of baking spice on the finish rounds the wine out nicely.
