Raised in his family’s heurige (wine tavern), Fritz was one of the first in his region to recognize the importance of low-intervention farming and winemaking. At the helm of two wineries now, Wieninger and Hajszan Neumann, he’s also the co-president of RESPEKT and one of the founding members and chairman of the Wien Wein growers association. While both wineries are certified biodynamic, Hajszan Neumann is where Fritz feels more open to experimentation.
The Grüner Veltliner NATURAL is the only wine from Hajszan Neumann that Fritz ferments in stainless steel tanks. Made from grapes sourced from an old vineyard in Ried Gabrissen on Vienna's Bisamberg, the wine rested on the skins for 4 months. Following maturation in amphora for 4 months, the wine was bottled without fining, filtration, or sulphur.
