This is the first vintage of Carignan that Matt and Kelly have made using grapes from their vineyard on the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley. The higher elevation and volcanic nature of the soil makes this wine very different from previous iterations of the Grosgrain Carignan, which were made from grapes harvested from their Old Milton Vineyard. The hue is a lighter shade of ruby, yet there’s notable structure. Notes of cherry, red currant and sage are complemented by the lightest touch of spice that derives from 11 months aging in neutral French oak barrels.
