Natural Wine
Natural Wine
Natural wine is a movement that has gained notoriety around the world, focused on wines made from sustainably farmed grapes and without the wide array of additives, colouring, chemicals & more found in many mass-produced wines. Just grapes, yeast and little-to-no sulphur – that’s it! Real wine made by real people. We have one of the largest selections of natural wines in Alberta – check them out today.

For Éric Texier, wine is a second career. He was working as a nuclear engineer when he decided that he’d prefer to make wine. So, he studied enology at Bordeaux in 1992 and bottled his first wine in 1995. Today he farms his 4.2 hectares of  vines according to biodynamic principles and takes a hands off approach in the cellar.

From 70+ year-old vines of an old, pre-clonal variety known as "Serine", planted on a south-facing slope on granite soils in the warm St-Julien-en-St-Alban zone (in the Ardèche on the northern bank of the Ouvèze--to the west of the Rhône River, at the southern edge of the northern Rhône Valley). They are organically farmed and harvested by hand. The vinification and aging are identical to Texier's Brézème Serine bottling and thus purely expressive of the much warmer, sunnier microclimate and granite-rich St. Julien terroir: whole-cluster fermentation with indigneous yeasts and no sulfur in wooden vats with an 8-10-day maceration; no extraction technqiues, only a submerged cap for a gentle infusion of color and flavor; aging in foudres for 36-48 months on the fine lees without racking; bottling without fining or filtration and generally no sulfur.
