A local who went to work for famed Alsatian winemaker Zind-Humbrecht and then returned to the village of Cocumont, Elian was the first winemaker to bottle wine under the Côtes du Marmandais appellation. Working with unique local varieties like Abouriou in addition to more commonly known varieties, his wines have been known to outshine some Médoc Grand Crus.
Le Vin est une Fête ("Wine is a party") is one of those great old school French country wines that we love to come across. The cépage includes 40% Abouriou, 40% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot. As the name suggests, it’s a wine made to be easy drinking and flavorsome. Delicate tannins and crunchy strawberry and raspberry fruit flavors were imparted by short extraction and minimal intervention. It’s similar to a fresh Loire Valley red wine, but with the soul of a Beaujolais.
