The grapes of the domain are sold to the cooperative of Cairanne until 1974, when Marcel Richaud, who was only 17 years old, takes over the reins of the domain with the idea of freeing himself from the cooperative and selling bottles of wine. Marcel pursues his passion and moves very early towards a more responsible culture and elaboration. He took advice from winemaker friends like Marcel Lapierre and eliminated as many inputs as possible. In 1987, he takes some risks with the acquisition of 3 ha on the very beautiful “Ebrescade” climate.
The domain obtains the Ecocert label in 2008 for a vineyard which, with time, has grown to 60 hectares. The raw material is respected from the beginning to the end, because the grape is the basis of everything for the winemaker. From the cultivation of the soils, the pruning of the vines, the vinification, the maturing, but also within the appellation’s syndicate; everything is done to offer us natural wines of the best possible quality. Today, Marcel is slowly and surely handing over to his son, Thomas, and one of his daughters, Claire, to perpetuate the Richaud spirit within the Domaine.
L'Ebrescade is from a single parcel at 327 meters elevation at the border of Rasteau. This is Marcel Richaud's top wine at the estate. A bold, soulful red wine based on 60% Mourvèdre, 25% Syrah and Grenache.
