Owned by fourth generation growers Hervé and Mathilde Pouizin, the estate is given to grapevines, olive and oak trees, lavender and undeveloped forest. The couple take an old-school approach to winemaking and still use the winery's original concrete tanks from the 1930’s. The one major change they introduced was to fully convert the vineyards to organic farming.
Valréas is one of the most northern areas in France where Grenache fully ripens. As such this wine has greater lift and poise than many a Côtes-du-Rhône rouge. It’s ruby red in appearance with medium intensity. On the nose spirited aromas of stewed strawberry and licorice are complemented by hints of cracked black pepper and thyme. The medium bodied palate is loaded with plump flavors and mouth filling tannins. The finish is smooth and easygoing.
