Guilio Armani has been the wine-maker at La Stoppa in Piacenza for a long time. But he has own side project called DENAVOLO from which he produces white wines - or perhaps more correctly 'skin contact' wines. They are wines made from mostly local varieties: Malvasia di Candia, Ortugo, Marsanne, Sauvignon Blanc, and some unknown local varieties, that are left with some length of skin contact.

We love these wines as they are completely natural (not even sulphur) yet they are so delicious, fresh and electric. The vineyard itself is just 8 acres, of well drained limestone, ranging from 300m - 750m and perched precariously on the top of the foothills in the far western portion of Emilia-Romagna, not far from the sea.

Catavela is the perfect gateway orange wine. 6 - 10 days skin contact gives this wine it's structure. A great wine to start with if you've never had a natural, skin contact white wine.
