What do you get when a famed Brunello di Montalcino winery decides to grow Syrah and Petit Verdot? You end up with a wine that’s bold, inky dark, and full of character. The centuries-old Castello Romitorio has been owned by artist Sandro Chia since the 1980’s. Abandoned and derelict, Chia has restored the property and made it his home. The Romitòro reflects this spirit of rebirth, contributing something new to a well established wine region. The Tuscan Chianina bull on the label (a Chia artwork) illustrates the wine's strength and boldness. In the glass there are dense notes of marasca cherry, black plum, dark chocolate, and mocha. On the palate, it’s full bodied with mouth filling tannins. A wine that can be held in the cellar for 4-5 years, the Romitòro is for fans of big wines and big flavors.
