Carneros Springs Napa Cabernet Sauvignon

One of our wine unicorns is well-priced, well-made Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Compared with a decade ago, this style of wine has become increasingly difficult to discover. Enter Carneros Springs. Created by Appellation Ventures, this wine is made from fruit sourced from some of California’s finest vineyards. In certain vintages wineries will have an excess of fruit that they discreetly offer to a network of brokers. For Carneros Springs, the winemaking team is able to access high quality grapes at a fraction of the price. Although they cannot divulge their sources, they will say that this wine should cost at least 3 times as much as it does. Not a bad deal at all.

Like most California Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine is blended with lesser amounts of other grape varieties. The breakdown is 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec, and 2% Petite Sirah. Deep and lush, this full-bodied red wine has concentrated flavors of black currant, blackberry, graphite, dark chocolate, and mocha. Richly structured, the tannins are smooth and mouth filling.
