In 1794 18-year-old tenant farmer Jacques Bernard purchased 0.8 hectares of land, building a foundation that would be followed by 11 generations of his family. Previously known as Domaine de la Serriere, in 1971 the family changed the name to Château Beauchêne when they acquired additional land near Orange. Today Château Beauchêne spans 70 hectares across four appellations, including in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. When Michel Bernard took the mantle of winemaker from his mother Odette, he decided to drastically cut production by focusing on estate wines. As a result today Château Beauchêne is counted amongst the finest wineries in the Vallée du Rhône. For us the wines of Château Beauchêne have all the classic charm and character we’re looking for, and all in a great price range.
"This is the most "flattering" of our Châteauneuf: gourmet, fruity and delicate. The marriage of two terroirs, clay-rolled pebbles and sandy soils, gives it this beautiful ease full of freshness and a beautiful texture with very fine and abundant tannins which have retained the finesse of the grain, like velvet. It can be tasted young but also after a few years." - Château Beauchêne
