Some wines just demand your attention, and boy, is Occhipinti one of them. Led by Arianna Occhipinti, this Vittoria estate in southeastern Sicily has drawn international notice for its fresh, bright, and precise wines. The niece of COS co-founder Giusto Occhipinti, Arianna released her first wine at just 22. What began as a single hectare of abandoned vines has grown into 18 hectares of organically and biodynamically farmed land.
Her focus on native grape varieties, especially Frappato, and a restrained, oak-free approach in the cellar results in wines that are clear, balanced, and full of character. In these wines, soil and site are absolute king.
Stanley Tucci even stopped in Vittoria on his CNN series Searching for Italy to taste these wines, showing viewers that Sicilian bottles can be lively, approachable, and endlessly drinkable (watch here).
The SP68 wines, named for the road that leads to the winery, are meant to honour journeys and the generations of winemakers who came before.
