Producing small amounts of vineyard driven wines, Gautherot is recognized as a rising star in Champagne. A grape grower since 1986, he made his first wine in 2001 at the behest of fellow winemaker and friend Anselme Selosse. His five hectare estate is named after his two primary vineyards: Vouette and Sorbée. To quote wine writer Peter Liem: “the champagnes of Vouette et Sorbée are uncompromisingly original, possessing deep, vinous aromas and assertive personalities. These are wines before they are Champagnes…” The Fidèle Extra Brut is made from biodynamically farmed Pinot Noir from Vouette and Biaunes. It was fermented with native yeasts in barrel and bottled without dosage.
Rich and round with crunchy acidity, the Fidèle shows notes of poached nectarines, apple croissant, and ginger spice. The finish is dry with stoney minerality. Skip the flutes. White wine glasses are the way to go if you want to enjoy all of this wines impressive aromas.
