Jm Seleque Solessence Brut

Champagne JM Sélèque is one of those producers that just does things right. A domaine of only 7.5ha, his production is a miniscule 65, 000 bottles. To put that into context, Moët bottles 36 million bottles yearly! Young dynamo Jean-Marc Sélèque prefers to treat his vineyards using organic and biodynamic principles, a herculean feat given Champagne’s notoriously difficult climate. A true “grower”, he has holdings in Pierry, Moussy, Epernay, Mardeuil, Dizy, Boursault and Vertus. Fermentations occur in a combination of steel vats, oak barrels, casks and even a ceramic egg. A minimum of 18 months’ lees ageing imparts that right touch of brioche character.

The Cuvee Solessence is a blend of 60% chardonnay, 30% pinot meunier and 10% pinot noir with 50% reserve wine. A dosage of 7 g/l balances notes of meyer lemon and meringue. Surely a wine that impresses with it’s balance of both intrigue and freshness. Simply put, this wine is right on the money.
