The Hatch winery is the brainchild of the so-called “bad boy of Canadian wine” - Jason Parkes. Known for his punk-rock sensibilities (he’s also the lead singer of a band called Proper Man called Forty Elephants), Jason is entirely self taught. Landing his first winery job in order to fix his broken van, today he’s the guiding force behind Jason Parkes Customs. The brands under his banner include The Hatch, Black Swift Vineyards, Screaming Frenzy, Crown + Thieves, and Gobsmacked.
The Bury the Hatchet Red is made from a blend of Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. In the glass the wine's brooding ruby red color foreshadows robust aromas of blackcurrant jam, ripe blueberry, and cedar. The medium-full bodied palate is filled out by sinewy tannins and wine gum flavors. Sweet spice lingers on the finish.
