For 56 years, Marrenon has produced wines using the grapes of 1200 grape growers. It’s a winemaking cooperative with footholds in the regions of Ventoux, Luberon, and the Rhône Valley, Working at this scale means that Marrenon is not 1 physical winery, but rather 7. Orchestrating it all is winemaker Philippe Tolleret, who has access to grapes harvested from 4,200 hectares of vineyards.
The Marrenon ORCA is a robust and complex red wine that showcases what Ventoux is capable of. Medium ruby red in color, the nose offers concentrated aromas of morello cherries, blackberry, ground coffee beans, and garrigue. The palate, which is dominated by round mouthfeel and muscular tannins, shows a great deal of finesse. On the finish, a breath of heat reminds you that the grapes for this wine were grown under the hot Mediterranean sun.
