It was founded in 1857 by Jesuit monks who inherited a 25 hectare plot of land in the Beqaa Valley. Recognizing the unique terroir, the monks planted French grape vines imported from Algeria. Amazingly they also discovered Roman-era wine cellars that could be used to store the wines. For decades the Jesuits continued to operate the winery until it was sold to a local consortium of businessmen in 1973. Having navigated difficult times, including a brutal civil war, Château Ksara remains Lebanon’s most successful and largest wine producer.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e‘Le Prieuré’ is a heritage blend made from Carignan, Cinsault, Mourvèdre and Caladoc.
