Champagne Jacquesson Cuvee 743
Champagne Jacquesson, located in the town of Dizy north of Epernay, is operated by Laurent and Jean-Hervé Chiquet, who took over from their father in the 1980’s. Founded in 1798, the estate underwent a radical change in the late 1990’s when the brothers adopted an herbicide-free, terroir-based philosophy. The decision to drop the traditional non-vintage blend, and replace it with a single-vintage-based cuvée, was unheard of for a Champagne house. Their 28 hectares of holdings, which account for 80% of their needs, are in the Grande Vallée de la Marne (Aÿ, Dizy and Hautvillers) and in the Côte des Blancs (Avize and Oiry).
This is how the Chiquet brother's describe the 743 multi-vintage blend- "2015, our harvest from Ay, Dizy and Hautvillers (60%) Avize and Oiry (40%). Winter and a large part of spring were mild and wet. There followed a period of dry weather with spells of high temperatures which lasted until mid-August. The growing season ended with alternating periods of cool humidity and dry heat. Picking started on 10 September and ended on the last day of the month. The harvest was very homogenous and produced perfectly ripe and healthy grapes, in reasonable quantities, with a sufficient level of acidity. So, a splendid vintage. Some reserve wines complete the blend"
