"It was Il Poggio vineyard, way back in 1962, that heralded the start of Castello di Monsanto’s journey in wine production, with the first harvest presided over by founding father Fabrizio Bianchi. Still to this day the company’s most iconic bottle, Il Poggio is the first Chianti Classico to feature the name of the specific vineyard that produces it. White grapes were removed from the recipe in 1968. Il Poggio is the source – thanks to massal selection – of all the Sangiovese, Colorino and Canaiolo plants in the company’s other vineyards." - Castello di Monsanto

"Sweet berries with sliced cherries and mushrooms. Pungent flowers and fresh mushrooms, too. Full-bodied with layers of round, succulent tannins that are enveloped in ripe fruit. It’s rich and lively at the finish. A rather plush and exciting Monsanto. Really excellent now, but even better in 2024." - 97 points, James Suckling

"Ripe cherry, strawberry and currant flavors are shaded by juniper, eucalyptus, black tea and mineral notes in this intense, balanced red, which is vibrant, firm and well-defined, with its fruit and mineral notes extending on the long aftertaste. Best from 2024 through 2045." - 96 points, Wine Spectator
