Andrea Cortonesi comes from a long line of Montalcino sharecropping farmers. He purchased the Uccelliera farm in 1986 and released his first vintage in 1991. Trained by notable growers like Giulio Gambelli, he was the cellar master for Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona until 1990. Only in 1998 was he fully able to dedicate himself full time to Uccelliera. Andrea Cortonesi is tireless in his approach to winemaking, with all vineyard work done exclusively by hand.
The Uccelliera Rosso di Montalcino is made from 100% Sangiovese Grosso. The grapes were fermented for 28 days on the skins with natural yeasts. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged 8 months in a combination of stainless steel tanks, small French oak and large Slavonian casks.
