Tenuta di Castellaro Marsili

The Sicilian island of Lipari is the stuff of postcards. Rising out of the deep blue waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, Lipari is the gateway of the Aeolian Islands. Formed by 260,000 years of volcanic activity, this archipelago of 8 islands was named after Aeolus, the Greek demigod of the winds. The Tenuta di Castellaro estate is located on the west side of the island. Situated 350 above the sea, the 9.5 hectare estate was founded on the concept of preserving the islands original grape varieties. Plots of indigenous Malvasia delle Lipari and Corinto Nero (in addition to Nero d’Avola, Carricante, Alicante and Moscato Bianco) are planted in dark lava stone soils in the traditional alberello (bush vine) method. Off Lipari, the winery also has vines on Mount Etna. Fully organic, the estate is overseen by consulting winemaker Salvo Foti, founder of I Vigneri. This organization, of which Tenuta di Castellaro is a member, exists to preserve eastern Sicily’s winemaking traditions and grape varieties. These are precise and intensely terroir driven wines.

This is how the winery describes this lively sparkling wine – “Light pink wine with light and persistent bubbles, the nose is reminiscent of citrus juice and zest, mineral shades, fresh flowers, aromatic herbs. It has a taste of deep freshness and well-integrated flavor, enveloping, tense and dry”
