Syrah from one of the highest vineyards on famed Mount Veeder! Bottled by seasoned winemaker Lore Olds, the Sky Vineyards Syrah shows that this Napa Valley AVA has more to offer than Cabernet Sauvignon. Making wine since 1971, Olds got his start working for Beaulieu and Mayacamas Vineyards before purchasing 5.6 hectares of land on the mountain. The original plantings of Zinfandel were soon joined by small amounts of Syrah. Now in his 13th year, Olds continues to dry farm his vines according to organic standards. The grapes are hand harvested and manually crushed with a 100-year old basket press! A pure example of mountain Syrah, this wine was aged in 1-10 year old French oak barrels. Purplish red in hue, there are bright notes of blackberry, loganberry, tobacco, and green pepper. Somewhat reminiscent of the great Syrah’s of the Northern Rhône, ripe fruit and a touch of chocolate on the finish let you know this wine is most certainly all California.
