Description
Castell’in Villa is one of the most historic estates in Chianti Classico. Princess Coralia Pignatelli della Leonessa and her husband purchased the property in 1968, with no intention of producing wine. Now half a century later Princess Coralia owns 300 hectares, of which 54 hectares are planted to vine.
“The 2007 Santacroce is a huge wine endowed with tons of richness and sheer textural depth. Dark cherries, plums, graphite, incense and tobacco burst from the glass in this intense, powerful wine. I very much like the way the 2007 fleshes out with time in the glass. It is a young, young wine that needs time to shed some baby fat and develop its bouquet.
Having tasted this wine in May and again this morning the bouquet has developed nicely over the past 5 years since this tasting was done and has aromas of cigar box, dark cherries, plums and hints of sweet spice. Well integrated and drinking nicely now.” – Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
