Roland Grangier St Joseph Granits
$42.02
Situated in the heart of the Pilat National Park, Domaine Roland Grangier has 11 hectares of vineyards planted in the appellations of Condrieu, St Joseph, Côte-Rôtie, and Vin de Pays. The winery was created in 2002 by Roland Grangier, a third generation grape grower. His father, Charles Grangier, had previously planted the land to grape vines and fruit trees. After taking over the property, Roland and his wife Céline expanded his holdings and built a new winery in 2012.
“Grown on granite, the fruit is destemmed, fermented in stainless steel then matured for 18 months in barrel, 50% new. It’s a large new-oak component that’s clearly noticeable at this stage, but it’s met head on by a swell of naturally powerful dark fruit. It has considerable oak influence on the texture, but it retains detail, fruit expression and salinity, with no sickly oak aromas and a very long finish. Could be exceptional in due course.” 93 Points, Decanter Magazine
