Poggio Scalette derives its name from the beautiful Tuscan landscape. Vineyards and olive groves are planted on earthen terraces shaped by stone supporting walls. Viewed from a far it looks like a series of stairways heading towards the town Greve. Abandoned after the death of the previous owner, the estate was purchased by Vittorio and Adriana Fiore in 1991. The couple purchased an additional 17 hectares of historic vineyards in 1996. These were the first vines planted in the area following World War I, and are a rare example of of the original clone of the famous Sangiovese di Lamole variety.

This how Vittorio describes his Chianti Classico - "This is a wine that expresses both the Chianti Classico terroir as well as the Sangiovese grape. The grapes for this wine are sourced from vineyards in the village of Ruffoli, located in Greve. Harvested at the peak of ripeness in October and fermented in concrete tanks, this wine is one of the finest examples of this classic Italian varietal."
