Picamelot Cremant Bourgogne Terroirs

Located in the village of Rully, Côte Châlonnaise, Maison Louis Picamelot is an iconic and historic producer, specialized in the production of sparkling wines Crémants de Bourgogne. Picamelot was among the first ones to release a ‘Bourgogne Mousseux’ back in the 30’s. In 1948 and 1949, bottles of Bourgogne Mousseux Louis Picamelot were loaded into the holds of ships chartered for Paul Emile-Victor’s first expeditions to Antarctica. In 1975 the Appellation “Crémant de Bourgogne” was recognised by the AOC, and replaced Mousseux on the labels. Picamelot is now under the reigns of Philippe Chautard, grandson of Louis Picamelot, who is a strong advocate of vintage cremants from specific terroir sites thus captivating the essence of the region.

The estate encompasses 22 hectares of vineyards (organically farmed) planted in chardonnay and pinot noir. Two thirds are located in the Côte de Beaune and Hautes Côtes de Beaune, more specifically in Saint Aubin between Puligny Montrachet and Chassagne Montrachet where the cuvées Les Reipes and En Chazot come from.

Picamelot remains a small quality driven family owned estate with a production of about 250 000 bottles a year. Aside of the estate wines, Picamelot shares its savoir-faire with various local wine producers and signs the production on their behalf.
