Noblaie Chinon Blanc

Domaine de la Noblaie goes way, way back. Once home to a taxing station for Crusader Knights, the domaine itself was started sometime during the 16th or 17th centuries. It was during this time that the property’s chalk cellars were hewn. The winery is today managed by Jérôme Billard, who previously interned at the famous Chateau Petrus in Bordeaux. The domaine sits at one of the highest points of the Chinon appellation and is essentially two long, sloping hillsides covering 24 hectares. The soil is mostly limestone covered with clay and limestone shards. The vines are farmed according to organic principles.

White Chinon is rare, accounting for only 2% of the regions wines. The Chante le Vent is produced from Chenin Blanc grapes hand harvested in three passes from 50 year old vines. Fermented with natural yeasts, ageing occurred over 6 months in tank. Fresh and zesty, it displays waxy notes of yellow apples, crunchy pears, ginger, and chamomile.
