While many people may not think to head to the Lebanon section of their local wine shop when picking out their weekend bottles, those familiar with this winery know it is one of the most unique and intriguing in the world of wine. Founded by Gaston Hochar in 1930 the winery has succeeded through incredible adversity, with the Hochar family and their staff literally risking their lives to bring in the harvest during periods of warfare in the region. Gaston was succeeded by his son Serge Hochar whose energy and passion for his wines made him one of the wine industry's great figures (Serge was named Decanter Magazine's first ever Man of the Year in 1984). Sadly Serge passed away in 2015, but his legacy lives on and his family continues the tradition of making world class wine in Lebanon.

The Jeune series of wines was created in 2006 to showcase a fresher style of wines that could be enjoyed in their youth. The Jeune Red is a blend of old vine Cinsault, Syrah and Cabernet Savuignon from organically farmed vineyards. The wine is fermented and rested in concrete vats to preserve freshness, and unlike the higher end Chateau Musar red sees no oak aging. This is wonderfully  soft  and juicy, with a silky texture and notes of plum, wild strawberry, cranberry, incense and black cherry. A delightful red that pairs perfectly with hearty Mediterranean fare.
