“Kiona Vineyards and Winery produced the first commercial bottling of Lemberger in the United States in 1980. Since then, our original 1.8 acre planting has grown to 13.1 acres. Lemberger is typically grown in cooler regions; Red Mountain is a blast furnace by comparison, which results in a riper, rounder profile not found in cooler areas.” – Kiona Vineyards

This wine is an intriguing counterpoint to other Lemberger’s from New York State or Austria (where Lemberger is known as Blaufränkisch). Medium ruby in colour, the nose is defined by prominent aromas of ripe red plums, bramble, and basil. The inclusion of 14% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Carmenère, adds to the wine’s overall structure. Juicy flavours of black cherry pie filling are complemented by a sprinkling of baking spice. Reminiscent of ripe Californian field blends, we think it makes an excellent pairing for burgers.
