When talking about the wines of the Northern Rhône, the name Jamet name requires little introduction. Jean-Luc is the brother of Jean-Paul Jamet, who he co-owned iconic Domaine Jamet with until 2012. When they worked together Jean-Luc was in charge of the vineyards and Jean-Paul was in charge of marketing. In 2013 the brothers decided to go their separate ways and the domaine’s holdings were split in two. With his portion of vineyards, which include some of the finest parcels in Côte-Rôtie, Jean-Luc established his namesake domaine. Altogether he farms 7.5 hectares of vineyards, of which there are 4.5 hectares of Côte-Rôtie, 2 hectares of Côtes-du-Rhône, and 1 hectare of Vin de Pays. The Côte-Rôtie vines are planted to 100% Syrah and separated into multiple plots -  0.9 ha Mornachon, 0.8 ha Chavaroche, 0.7 ha Lancement, 0.6 ha Bonnivières, as well as small parcels across Côte Baudin, La Landonne, Les Moutonnes, Les Rochains, Tartaras and Fongeant. In the cellar Jean-Luc employs 35% whole bunch fermentations, wild yeasts, and primarily 300 litre barrels for elevage.

The 10 different plots on major slopes are schist-dominated and are all processed into one cuvée "Les Terasses.” The ripeness of the fruit determines the harvest time and Jean-Luc is (together with his brother) one of the last vignerons to practice this philosophy in the region. The plots are partly vinified together and gradually "cross over" assembled and mounted. In addition to the use of a maximum of 20% new barrels (demi-muids and pièces) and 20 to 22 months of barrel aging, to gain complexity, Jean-Luc chooses to ferment 1/3 part in whole clusters.

"I tasted four different lots that will go into Jamet's 2018 Cote Rotie. All showed wonderfully silky, elegant tannins, which should make the wine approachable when young. Aromas and flavors range from violets and raspberries to darker notes of cassis and blueberry in these generally full-bodied barrel samples." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
