Intellego was created in 2009 by Lammershoek assistant winemaker, Jurgen Gouws, who has worked with some of Swartlands biggest names (Eben Sadie, Tom Lubbe, and Craig ‘El Bandito’ Hawkins). He also worked in France with Stephane Ogier in Côte-Rotie. The name of the winery translates “to understand” in Latin. The fruit for Gouws’ wines come from leased vineyards and purchased fruit. His preference is for dry farmed bush vines that are farmed organically.

“The wine gets its name from the intern that worked with us during the first season of making this wine. When collecting the grapes his only job was to keep me awake with conversation but 30 minutes into the drive I found myself the only one awake while my co-pilot was sleeping. We just made it…. Whole bunch fermented for 14 days on the skins in open tanks. Aged in old 500L & 300L  barrels for 10 months.” – Jurgen Gouws
