Hugel Gentil

The Hugel family has been making wine in Alsace since 1639, making them one of the oldest wine making families in all of France. The domaine is today managed by 13th generation winemaker Étienne Hugel. His uncle Jean Hugel was a leading force in resurrecting the Alsatian wine trade after the devastation of World War II. Hugel & Fils hold slightly over 25 hectares, all located around Riquewihr and almost half in vineyards allowed the Alsace Grand Cru designation.

In the words of the winery – “Produced exclusively from hand harvested grapes in predominantly clay and limestone vineyards, from a dozen of the most favored localities in and around Riquewihr. Gentil “Hugel” allies the suave, spicy flavour of Gewurztraminer, the body of Pinot Gris, the finesse of Riesling, the grapiness of Muscat and the refreshing character of both Pinot Blanc and Sylvaner.”
