The Hugel family has been making wine in Alsace since 1639, making them one of the oldest wine making families in all of France. The domaine is today managed by 13th generation winemaker Étienne Hugel. His uncle Jean Hugel was a leading force in resurrecting the Alsatian wine trade after the devastation of World War II. Hugel & Fils hold slightly over 25 hectares, all located around Riquewihr and almost half in vineyards allowed the Alsace Grand Cru designation.

In the words of the winemaker - "Pinot Gris truly dry and gastronomic which reveals itself at the table! Rich and rounded, although still dry, it is ideal with terrines, white meats and fish in sauce. Of all the Alsace varieties, Pinot Gris has the greatest ageing potential."
