The 2016 Lower East Cabernet is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, aged for 18 months in oak puncheons and barrels (18% new). This is much more old-world in style compared to many of the broader shouldered Cabernets from California or even other examples from Washington state. Tasting note from the winery: “Classic Cabernet aromatics of black currant, bing cherry and ripe raspberry followed by subtle notes of dark chocolate, rose hips, beechwood, vanilla bean, thyme and Turkish spices. This wine definitely leans more towards elegant than powerful. On the palate it has silky approachable tannins with firm acidity carrying the mid palate. The finish is long but soft and approachable.”
