The Vicini family moved to the area near Pescara around 1500 as wool merchants and have had agricultural holdings ever since. The cantina for wine operations was constructed in 1853. In recent years the Vicini vineyard holdings were passed on to Chiara Ciavolich by her aunt Giuliana Vicini along with her dream that the prime vineyards be designated to a label specific to the terroir of the sites. The Giuliana Vicini label was realized in honour of Chiara’s nonna.

This medium bodied red wine is made from Montepulciano grapes harvested from 40 year old vines trained in Pergola Abruzzese. Grown mostly in central Italy, Montepulciano is appreciated for its soft blackfruit flavours and inky purple colour. Low in acidity with round tannins, it's the ideal varietal for everyday drinking. Montepulciano from Abruzzo is not to be confused with Tuscan Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, which is made primarily from Sangiovese. As with the Pecorino, the Giuliana Vicini Montepulciano d’Abruzzo was vinified in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Fruit forward, this wine has juicy notes of blackberry, red plum, sour cherry, and thyme. Perfect with burgers or pasta.
