1.5 liters of a wine that Robert Parker has described as a “spectacular bargain”! This winery holds some of the finest vineyards in Spain. Sitting across from Vega Sicilia on the Golden Mile, the Finca Villacreces estate has been highly prized since the 14th century. Owned by wealthy aristocrats for much of the 20th century, it was purchased by the Anton family in 2003. Owners of a winery in Rioja and one of the most famous Michelin star restaurants in the country, they promptly invested in revolutionizing the estate. Today it spans 115 hectares, of which 64 hectares are planted to vine. The Finca Villacreces ‘Pruno’ is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon harvested from estate vines. It was aged in 3 year old French barrels for 12 months. Dark crimson red in colour, it shows notes of dark cherries, plums, bay leaf, and toffee.
“Smoky and loamy earth notes frame a core of black cherry and plum in this firm, dense red. Balsamic acidity balances muscular tannins, which yield to a floral, minerally finish. Drink now through 2028. 40,000 cases made.” 91 points, Wine Spectator
