Field Recording’s Andrew Jones is the man to know on the Central Coast. A veteran fieldman for a grapevine nursery, he’s had a hand in replanting much of the regions vineyards. In his words: “Every season I see about 2 to 3 million vines go in the ground.” Through his connections with grape growers Jones was able to create Field Recordings in 2007. This tiny winery focuses on making wines from select vineyards. For the Freddo, a 100% Sangiovese, Jones sourced grapes from three separate vineyards (Creston Ridge, Martin Brothers, and Shandon Hills) in the Paso Robles AVA. Fermented using carbonic maceration and aged for 10 weeks in stainless steel tanks, this wine is all about chugabiility. Light in colour with notes of ripe strawberries and raspberries, it is best served with a slight chill (“Freddo” means “chill” in Italian).
