Ex Post Facto Syrah
$60.52
Cool climate Syrah from one of southern California’s top wineries. Brewer-Clifton was started in 1996 by Greg Brewer and Steve Clifton, who quickly set themselves apart by focusing on single vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Working from an urban winery in the Lompoc “Wine Ghetto”, in 2002 things exploded when Robert Parker described their wines as “the single greatest revelation of my 2001 tastings.” For a decade most of Brewer-Clifton’s wines were sold via mailing list. In 2017, 2 years after selling their majority ownership, the winery was sold to Jackson Family Wines. Although no longer the owner, Greg continues to make the wines at Brewer-Clifton.
Many fans of Brewer-Clifton are unaware that Greg has been crafting Syrah for 25 years. This wine is made from grapes harvested from cool climate vineyards in Santa Barbara wine country. Macerated on the skins for 60 days and aged 18 months in seasoned barrels, it is a more lively expression of California Syrah. Bold and dark in the glass, it shows generous aromas of black plums, blueberries, cracked black pepper, and cloves.
