Evesham Wood Pinot Noir Sojeau Vineyard

$68.16

“Established in 1986, Evesham Wood was sold in 2010 by founder and Willamette Valley legend Russ Raney to Erin and Jordan Nuccio.  Raney chose his succession wisely, as these wines have been proving since that transfer.  Make no mistake, Evesham Wood is an iconic name in the history of the region’s wines, and the elegant, complex, and ageworthy Pinots that Raney produced over his career are highly renowned and whispered about.  Today’s wines do that heritage proud.  It was really interesting to try the 2018s and 2019s close together, if not side by side, as the differences between the vintages were clear but not stark.  Maybe that’s because the style here favours a light hand, and that helped a lot in 2018 – and 2017, for that matter.  I marginally preferred the recently released 2019s, but both sets of wines were outstanding.” – Vinous

Denny Peseau is one of Oregon’s most mythical figures.  The original owner of Eola Springs, a vineyard planted in the 1970s,  he ‘retired’ and planted Sojeau, a piece of property he had been eyeing for quite some time.  Sojeau sits on a ridgeline above Eola Springs.  In a very short time, Sojeau vineyard has become an Oregon icon.  Decanter Magazine recently called Sojeau the “Musigny” of Oregon, because of the intensity of the aromatics and suave texture. It is the most exotically perfumed and supple of all of the Evesham Wood single vineyard Pinot Noirs.
